What's In-Store at Look Beyond Mastectomy Boutique this month?

Wow, what a time we are living in. I don't think any of us could have anticipated the current state of affairs and how it would impact us all to such an extent. My hope is that you are all doing well and staying as safe and staying as healthy as possible during this time.

Although we have had to close the store in order to comply with the public health protocols to reduce the spread of COVID-19, we are still seeing clients by appointment. We know that life doesn't stop, clients are still undergoing cancer treatments including mastectomies and reconstructive surgeries and there is still a need for things like post-surgical garments. We are still here for you, and want to continue to support you on your journeys.

Please call us to make an appointment if you would like to come in, and we will do our best to respond as soon as possible.

New Bra

By now we're sure you've heard all of the tips to help reduce the spread of the virus (practice social distancing, wash your hands thoroughly and frequently etc.), but here are some tips we have found useful to stay as healthy as possible during these uncertain times.

PURIFY THE AIR WITH PLANTS

On top of making your space more beautiful,  you can also make your home an even healthier refuge during this time of self-confinement, by bringing some air cleaning plants indoors. NASA, the agency responsible for the welfare of its astronauts who can be confined to small spaces for months on end, conducted a study on the air purifying power of plants - the NASA Clean Air Study. Plants work to remove carbon dioxide from the environment in order to make the air we breathe cleaner. NASA recommends having 1 plant per 100 feet. So there you go, one easy way to make your quarantine space both more beautiful, and more healthy!

GET YOUR VITAMIN D

While we're all trying to strengthen our immune systems, Vitamin D is a very simple,  and easy way to help strengthen your body, and help protect yourself and your family from COVID-19. One study has shown that Vitamin D can possibly cut the risk of infection with respiratory illness by 50%. Results from this study of 25 randomized controlled trials indicated that Vitamin D supplementation reduced the risk of acute respiratory tract infection among all participants. Moreover, those over 70 years old are 75% less efficient at producing vitamin D from the same amount of sunlight as a 20 year oldOf course this isn’t a miracle cure, but something that everyone can easily add to their routine as a quick and cheap way to help protect yourself and build immunity.

DECLUTTER YOUR SPACE

Why not use this time at home to get rid of all the unwanted and unnecessary stuff and do a little spring cleaning? It will boost your mental heath and make space for some much needed peace in your life during a time when we need it the most.

Some other ideas to help build up your immune systems:

Eat well! Eat lots of colourful fruits and vegetables, and reduce sugar as much as possible (sugar has been shown to compromise the immune system)

Get lots of sleep! It will boost your immune system and since most of us have a bit more time at home during quarantine why not use it to catch up on lost sleep?

Meditate. Science has shown it can help to reduce stress, anxiety and promote emotional health along with a host of other benefits.

Get physical! Exercise has been proven to support the immune system and enhance mood. Two things we can really use right now. So go ahead and roll out that yoga mat. A lot of the studios in Ottawa are offering free online classes right now.

You got this!

What are some of the things you are doing right now to promote health and pass the time at home?

New spring line!

One thing that we get excited about during this time is the warmer weather, longer days and pops of colour that spring brings.  We have received our shipment of beautiful bright and colourful spring items to help liven up your wardrobes.
